St. John’s Episcopal Church, 3427 Olney-Laytonsville Road, will host a collection site for HarvestShare and asking parishioners and the nearby community to share their home-grown garden bounty from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Purchased produce is also accepted. Signs are posted and coolers are set up near the flagpole between the school and church. HarvestShare is a not-for-profit, all-volunteer organization that in the spring of 2020 began asking backyard and community gardeners to donate surplus fruits and vegetables to share with neighbors in need. Organization surpassed its goal of 1,000 pounds last year by collecting and redistributing over 10,000 pounds of fresh produce to local food assistance providers. Olney HELP was a recipient.
