Sandy Spring Museum, 17901 Bentley Road, will host a History Happy Hour, “Hellfire Boys,” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Hellfire Boys were the U.S. response to the first attacks of chlorine gas by German forces in WWI. The companies of engineers-turned-soldiers expanded and refined mustard gas and other asphyxiates delivered in artillery shells, inflicting devastating casualties on enemy troops. Hear journalist Theo Emery’s account of the marriage between science and industry, and the real characters guiding the invention of chemical weapons that changed war-making forever.
