“Quilt Codes of the Underground: History or Mystery?,” a Speaker Series Presentation by Dr. Blanche Brownley, will be held at 12 p.m. at Sandy Spring Slave Museum & African Art Gallery, 18524 Brooke Road, Sandy Spring. Learn how this aspect of the Underground Railroad was researched by some and referred to as fabricated stories by others. Were quilts used to aid the escaping slaves? Meaning of the codes will be reviewed and linked to exhibits at the museum as visitors contemplate how family history cannot be pushed aside as myth and folklore. Free admission.
