Andy Stefanelli is the new varsity football head coach at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School.
He succeeds long-time coach Bob Milloy, who announced his retirement in February.
Andy Stefanelli, a 1983 graduate of Our Lady of Good Counsel and veteran of the Falcon coaching staff, is the newly named head coach of the school’s varsity football team.
Stefanelli, a 1983 graduate of the school, has coached with the Falcons for 10 seasons. He has served as the freshman head coach and recruiting coordinator for the past eight years, accumulating a record of 71-2.
“I am thrilled and honored to be named the head football coach at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, my alma mater,” Stefanelli said. “I hope to carry on the rich tradition that has been established by Coach Milloy.”
Stefanelli began his coaching career at the youth level for the Rockville Football League (RFL) in 2001. He took over a disbanded Bears program and rebuilt it into a championship-caliber program over the past 15 seasons.
He has also served on the RFL Board of Directors since 2003 and is the league’s vice president/director of football operations.
As the general manager/head coach for the Montgomery County Bearcats in the GYFL, a spring all-star team comprised of elite seventh- and eighth-grade players, Stefanelli has led the Bearcats to the championship three years straight. In addition, he was selected to coach the eighth-grade Maryland Crab Bowl game since its inception in 2009.
“Andy Stefanelli is a proven football coach who is passionate about teaching all aspects of the game,” Good Counsel athletic director Pat Bates says in a press release. “I am very confident that that he will be successful in staying competitive with the top teams in the WCAC, as he has played a big part in the winning tradition of our football program over the past few
years. Beyond the X’s and O’s, Andy has also been a mentor to our young men both on and off the field. He embraces the mission of the school and the Xaverian core values, which are fundamental to his coaching philosophy.”
After his years of playing at Good Counsel and leading his team as captain, Stefanelli played at Western Maryland College (McDaniel College), where he graduated in 1987. He was a team captain his junior and senior seasons.
Stefanelli and his wife, Estelle, reside in Rockville with their five children.
